For the next seven days, I will be accompanying a group of students on a hunger and homelessness service trip to Washington, D.C.. We’ll spend our days visiting different service sights and our nights sleeping at a hostel. Our itinerary includes 10 sites that provide food, health, and employment services to citizens of all ages and will keep us busy from mid-morning to late evening everyday. These trips that the university offers are 100% student led, and my role as the staff advisor is more like that of a chaperone. Of course, I want to participate in the service projects as much as I can, as I think this will be a life-changing and eye-opening experience.
In order for me to fully engage in the experience, I’ll have to unplug to some degree. Unless I have time (and energy) in the evenings, I probably won’t write another blog post. But I expect that when I do, it will be great!
