If you haven’t already noticed, one of my biggest pet peeves is reading (or writing) just for the sake of reading/writing. I find it to be such a waste of time to read something that is merely a grievance, never providing a solution. My approach to writing my blog posts is to state a problem, provide examples, inspire, then empower readers to take action against the problem. So when my good friend Skyler Dennis told me about a book he and his partner, Jamonica Nunnery, had recently written, I was eager to see what problem their book would help me solve.
Skylar and I met nearly 10 years ago (yikes, I can’t believe it was that long ago!) during our undergraduate studies and I’ve seen him blossom into such a force. From a college kid trying to pass chemistry to an author, business owner, and international consultant, he has the background to inspire others through his own personal testimony. And just as I’d hoped, How to Cheat Death: Nine Keys to Overcoming a Dead Broke Mentality, calls its readers to take action against the hardships that so many of us experience.
In addition to quotes from the likes of Dr. Martin Luther King and Winston Churchill, Skyler & Jamonica give you the tough love that we all need to push ourselves to excel. Every chapter includes real-life problems as experienced by the book’s main character, Malcolm, and ends with an assignment. Assignments include: finding your passion, knowing the difference between your commitments and your interests, and evaluating the functions of your friends. If you’re tired of feeling, thinking, living, and earning average, THIS is the book for you.
