Boy, oh boy – where do I even start? As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I took a little bit of a break from blogging just until things got settled. Life was changing and decisions were pending and I didn’t feel right blogging knowing that some major events were about to unfold. But on the eve of my two-year blog anniversary, I’m happy to share a few updates!
Two years ago when I started this blog, I was just finishing graduate school and embarking on my journey toward becoming a career counselor for college students. Two years later, I’m working in a role at a completely different university where recruiting, on-boarding, and retention are parts of my responsibility. Did I fail to mention that I’ll also be working on a second Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology? Yes, things have changed quite a bit.
Here’s a little of the back story: When I was in undergrad, my most memorable class was human resource management. Even though my grades were not the best, I still loved the content (that’s a clear sign for me). I loved it so much that I interned in HR at a local hospital and thought that I’d made up my mind to pursue a career in human resources. But time went on and I soon discovered my love for higher education. Believe it or not, I never sought the help of a career counselor so it never occurred to me that I could have both. Without any guidance, I decided to get a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration instead. Fast forward to today and my work as a career counselor led me to wanting a degree in I/O which then led me to a job that is a perfect match for my HR interest and is at a very well-known university! In true Sucsass style, I now have everything I’ve been searching for all along.
I love helping others pursue their career dreams, so coaching will always be a part of my professional work but I have to say that I am absolutely in love with my new job! Not to mention, Brylon and I recently moved into a new apartment and have begun moving forward with wedding planning so my priorities have changed significantly. I’m so excited to focus on excelling at my new position, planning our wedding, and starting school (again, LOL!). Of course I’ll still be blogging but the content might change to reflect a more holistic view of what I’m experiencing right now.
So there you have it, all new everything!
